January 2017 | The Free 52 Project

I loved the first year of the Free 52 Project so much that I couldn’t possibly give it up. The images that came from it were by far my favorites from 2016. I found an unexpected fulfillment that I had been lacking in my work. A new happiness that came from intentionally setting aside time to shoot… for me! The more I shot, the more I made an effort to document our everyday outings too. That was a welcomed side effect. So often I allow myself to get bogged down by life & work that I resort to shooting my family with my iPhone. While that’s awesome for some things, I was missing the opportunity to give my family (and myself) dynamic images of our life. The project forces me to stay on top of my editing by keeping me accountable each month. I love the images I create so much that it’s hard to go a day without uploading them to see what I did (or didn’t) get. With freelensing so much of what you capture can be a miss but it can also be a radical combination of bokehlicious light leaked goodness. The unknown is worth every single click.

I look forward to another year of shooting & being inspired by the ladies of The Free 52 project. We have quite a few new free lens loving faces that will be joining in next month &, of course, a lot of familiar ones too.

P.S. I had a couple people reach out to me about purchasing my nature prints for their homes. The gallery is up & available here if you’re interested: Art Prints for purchase
